Having a few bored teenagers at home during the December holidays was more than reason enough to have the wife suggest (insist) I take the kids to the shooting range. A quick call later and I had reserved a time at the local Parys shooting range. The shooting range has recently been upgraded to a 1000 meter range and it is now known as the Ballistic Beast Precision SA Shooting Range.

The shooting range is situated at the Parys Airfield. On arrival, you first need to go to the Montgolfiers Restaurant to complete the shooting range register and collect the gate key to gain access to the range. You can also buy targets and refreshments here.

Having reached the range we attached our targets (remember to take your masking tape) and headed downrange. We took a few practise shots at various distances and then settled at the 100-meter mark for the official family competition. We only had a .22 open-sight (un-scoped) rifle with us and as such could not make use of the remaining 900-meters! Although, a few of the younger members of our party were quite certain they could hit the target at a 1000-meters out, the optimism of youth!

When we had all taken our turn, we anxiously rushed to view our targets and ultimately the results. The winner…, well, a picture says a 1000-words, say no more! We had a fantastic day out and I can highly recommend the range as a fun to do activity in Parys. Obviously, serious marksmen and precision shooters are also catered for.

The shooting range near the Parys Airfield was registered and fully accredited up to 1000 meters with the National Regulator for Compulsory Specifications (NRCS) in 2016 by Leon Henrico, CEO of Ballistic Beast Precision SA.

The shooting range is open to the public seven days a week from 08h00 to 16h00. The keys to the shooting range must be handed in at the restaurant where the register and indemnity are signed by no later than 16h00.
